Here is an interesting update on the cost of fuel since last winter:
Natural gas cost about $1.25 per therm: current cost is about $0.78/therm (down 37%)
Electricity cost about $0.07 per KW: current cost is the same
Fuel oil cost $4.00 per gallon: current cost is about $2.99/gal (down 25%)
Propane cost about $2.99/gallone: current cost is about $1.85/gal (down 38%)
Fuel oil and propane fluctuate like a commodity, so their price will increase rapidly in the coming months as need increases. So, if you heat with oil or propane, FILL YOUR TANK NOW!!!
Even with these fossil fuel decreases, a gas furnace with a 15 SEER heat pump Hybrid system is still your lowest-cost heating system, and will cost around 35% less to heat with than even a 95% gas furnace alone. Max J

Time is runnng out...
I will be brief, but I want to let you know that the $1500.00 federal tax credit for upgrading your heating system is running out. It will end Dec 31, 2010, and if you haven't taken advantage of it yet, you are missing a great opportunity. In summary, if you upgrade your furnace or boiler to one with 95% efficiency, you get a tax CREDIT of 30% of the cost of the work, up to a maximum of $1500.00 This has been a great program for people with an old furnace, or people facing large repairs on their existing furnace.
Another nice feature of this program is that certain heat pumps also qualify, since they are a heating system. But heat pumps also provide cooling. So if you want to add or replace an air conditioner, if you upgrade to a heat pump you can get that 30% tax credit for that also.
This has been a great program. We are all sorry to see it end, and you will be too if you don't take advantage of it. Call our office at 924-0018 for more information. You can also look on our website at www.aircontrolspokane.com. Thanks for reading.

Happy New Year and Back to Work
Hi everyone. I hope you all had a satisfying and pleasant holiday season. Now it's time to get back to work, and for many of us that means making the most of your resources. So, here is a really good idea that is ripe for the picking:
If you are planning on adding air conditioning to your home this year, or possibly even replacing your old worn-out air conditioner with a new unit, just hold on a minute! If you do only that, you will be missing a great opportunity:
Here's the hot tip: instead of just installing an air conditioner, install a heat pump instead! A heat pumps cools just like and air conditioner (in fact, it IS an air conditioner, with a some extra controls and valves added), but it will also heat your home in the winter at a much lower cost than natural gas. That will save you money on your heating bill of course, but there is much more: If you specify a 15SEER efficiency heat pump to be installed, the federal government will give a $1500.00 tax credit. Not only that, Avista will also give Avista customers another $400.00 as an incentive to buy 15SEER. These are serious savings that you should not ignore.
But be aware of this: this incentive exists right now, and there is no guarantee that it will be offered all year. So be smart and jump on this while the incentives are still there. This is real, and it will certainly end at some point.
There are a few details that you need to be aware of. If you want those details, call the office at 509-924-0018. Good luck and Godspeed.
